Tooth Extractions

Under some circumstances, a tooth may need to be removed. Entirely removing a tooth from its place in your jawbone is called a tooth extraction. Dr. Marvin Herschfus will only suggest a tooth extraction as a last option. The most common reason for a tooth extraction is tooth decay and infection. After a tooth has died, the decay and infection that killed it must be stopped before they damage the rest of your smile. We utilize local anesthesia and gentle techniques to remove a decayed tooth. We also provide multiple care instructions to guide you through the healing process.

Another common reason we may suggest a tooth extraction is if your wisdom teeth become impacted. Known formally as your third molars, wisdom teeth are located in the very back of your mouth and are the last teeth to erupt from underneath the gumline. There is often not enough room for your wisdom teeth to grow properly, so they grow in sideways, causing friction and possible infection. To prevent problems, we will surgically remove impacted wisdom teeth.

No matter the reason for removing a tooth, we understand how it can impact your oral health and your confidence. We provide multiple cosmetic and restorative dentistry options to restore the lost tooth and brighten your smile. For more information, please contact our dental office today in Berkley, Michigan.
